In the middle of our daily routines, even the most compassionate people forget that some commonplace gestures, some genuine compliments, a few everyday acts of kindness can have transformative potential...
Recently, I read Michelle Obama's book Becoming, and at one point, she quotes something that had long been a credo of her dad, Fraser, which goes, “...that most people were good people if you just treat them well...”
And for that matter, my dad always said, “What you give is what you get back...”
Every morning, when you wake up to your alarm but aren’t motivated to get out of bed... (Not because you're depressed or something, but because you're a sloth bear...)
Well, you start thinking about tiny tweaks to your schedule (like eating your breakfast while travelling, taking a quick shower—or sometimes skipping it 😂... oh come on!!!)...
Only so that you can blithely catnap for an extra 10 minutes... (Later you wonder how this made you 27 hours late 😂😂...)
So yeah... you rush out of home in a tearing hurry to the bus stop, only to find your Auto Anna, who usually waits at the auto stand round the corner, waiting in front of your home, saying:
"Neenga usual eh vara time mela airichi madam, athan bus-a miss panirvingalo nu ingayae vanten..."
There starts the everyday act of kindness from random people who WOW your day...
:) That woman with an infectious laugh who sells flowers by the temple never fails to hand over flowers despite me not having the exact change...
:) In the middle of nowhere, your best friend calls and you hear her say:
"I was watching the episode in F.R.I.E.N.D.S where Rachel leaves Monica's apartment... and I felt like talking to you..."
(You’ll be all blushing)
:) When your roommates go out on a weekend and your landlady worries you’re sleeping alone, so she says,
"Come downstairs to sleep with me if you're scared to sleep alone..."
:) When your best friend’s mom wants you to drop by over the weekend even though your friend is out of town...
:) That random person who stops their car so that you can cross the road with ease...
:) All of a sudden, your old roommate texts you just to say,
"Sometimes when I feel down, I think of you and remind myself of all the things you’ve said..."
(What else can make you smile)
:) After seeing you rushing towards the elevator in the metro station, that random stranger who puts up their hand in front of the elevator sensor so that you can get in...
:) That co-worker who never fails to compliment your dresses, your new haircut, or whatever else...
...and many more. These are the kinds of good deeds that always give me a little buzz of satisfied happiness...
I'm sure you might have experienced some of these too. If so, feel free to rant in the comments section below...
Until next time,
Bye 😊
So insightful and true

DeleteBeing kind doesn't cost anything ! There are ppl who believe kindness is for free, and I wish they are heard like these. Coz usually majority doesn't get heard.
